Before you get started
Which Macs does it run on?
The first release targets macOS 26 or later on Apple silicon (M-series Macs). Intel Macs and earlier macOS versions are not supported.
What does on-device answering require?
Apple's on-device model must be available on your Mac, with Apple Intelligence enabled and its model ready. Having macOS 26 alone does not guarantee that availability. Local file import and text search do not require a cloud answering service; optional cloud features need an internet connection, your own API key and the relevant permission.
Does it work on Windows or Linux?
Not today. Several of the pieces it depends on — the handwriting recognition, the on-device answering model — are parts of macOS itself. A version for other platforms would be a different app rather than a port, so it is honest to say no rather than soon.
Do I need a subscription?
No. SageArchive is $49, once, with every update released in the following year, after a 14-day free trial. See the terms of sale. Device services and optional cloud AI may have their own charges.
Do I still need my device's own subscription?
Device accounts, synchronization and storage have their own requirements. SageArchive does not replace every service in a vendor plan. Check the vendor’s current terms and the features you rely on before changing a plan.
Does it support inq or every HiDock model?
Inq is implemented through the iPhone app's Bluetooth-to-cloud route; SageArchive reads the cloud notebooks, not the USB pen. HiDock supports HiNotes cloud and direct P1 USB. Plaud is cloud-only. reMarkable's cloud and direct SSH routes have separate setup. Device model, firmware and connection requirements still matter; see source setup.
My device is not on the list. Will you add it?
Tell us the device and how you get notes off it today. Future additions depend on access, format support and reliable transfer; no particular device or delivery date is promised. A supported file export may already give you a way to bring the material in.
What happens to my notes if you disappear?
Your saved archive remains on your Mac. Export selected notes as Markdown, plain text or JSON; SRT/VTT require transcript timings. Exports are not a complete media backup. Keep the database and media together in a consistent backup, as explained in backup and restore.
Can it tell who said what?
SageArchive's current on-device transcriber does not separate speakers. Optional Deepgram transcription can return speaker labels; the Groq and OpenAI paths do not. Cloud transcription is off by default and requires your API key and permission for the recording's source.
Is my data used to train anything?
SageArchive does not upload your archive to us for training. If you choose an optional cloud provider for transcription, answering or narration, what that provider does is governed by the account and terms you have with them — worth reading, and worth choosing a provider whose terms you like.
Can I print a note or listen to it?
Print is available for saved summaries, not for every note body or page. Export selected notes for portable text files. For narration, use More actions → Convert Text to Audio: local voices work on your Mac, while an optional cloud voice requires permission to send the note's text. See listening, export and printing.
How big is the app?
The download is about 17 MB. Speech models are downloaded separately, and their disk requirements depend on the model you choose. Your recordings and page images also need space on your Mac.
Can one note reference several others?
Yes. An authored note can contain links to multiple notes, quotations from different timed transcripts and your own commentary. Linked from shows ordinary incoming links; Referenced by shows the notes quoting a timed source. Ordinary links open notes; timed quotes retain their saved text and segment ranges. Exact links to untimed manuscript paragraphs or page regions are not supported. See the multi-reference review example.
Do I need a special recorder or tablet?
No. Start with supported audio, PDF or text files, a watched folder, the built-in recorder or your own authored notes. Device connections are additional ways to bring material into the same archive.
